The short answer
Prepare your official travel documents, save your hotel’s map pin and arrange a clear airport meeting plan. Keep the first day light. A successful arrival is getting checked in, connected and comfortable; your first full sightseeing day can come later.

Keep the official travel tasks separate
Entry permission, the arrival declaration and Bali’s tourist-levy arrangements answer different questions. Do not assume completing one means the others are finished. Requirements depend on your passport and journey, so use the current official Indonesian guidance and your airline before departure.
Indonesia’s immigration service explains that All Indonesia combines arrival declarations covering immigration, health, quarantine and customs. Its published guidance permits completion from three days before arrival through the arrival day. Check the current official portal for your journey rather than following an old checklist of separate forms.
Use All Indonesia, the official immigration eVisa site and Love Bali as starting points. Confirm visa eligibility, passport conditions and any required evidence with the relevant authority. The driver website does not determine your entry eligibility or collect these applications.
A simple before-you-fly checklist
- Check current passport, entry and airline requirements for every traveller, including children.
- Complete the relevant official applications or declarations within their permitted time window.
- Save confirmations and travel documents somewhere available without mobile data.
- Save the accommodation’s map pin, actual address, entrance instructions and check-in contact.
- Confirm the flight number and Bali arrival date with your airport-transfer provider.
- List passengers, suitcases, pram and any child-seat or mobility requirements.
- Agree how you will meet and communicate after baggage collection.
- Keep your first meal or evening plan flexible.
Check the web address before entering identity or payment details. A search advertisement is not proof of an official service. Keep passport information and other application documents with the relevant travel provider or authority; a routine transport enquiry needs your journey details, not a copy of every document.
Plan the airport handover before the road journey
Send the local arrival date and time shown on your flight itinerary. Bali uses WITA, UTC+8, and the arrival date can differ from your departure date. “Tomorrow night” becomes ambiguous when a flight crosses midnight or people are messaging from different time zones.
Your car pickup follows the arrival process, not simply the moment the aircraft lands. Agree the terminal, meeting instructions, contact method and what happens if a flight changes. Clarify the waiting allowance instead of assuming all delays are included.
If staying in Canggu, our airport-to-Canggu guide explains the villa pin, luggage and waiting questions. For other areas, check the airport-transfer page and confirm the exact property with Simson. Parking and tolls are included in Rafa’s transfer guidance; other journey terms need direct agreement.
Get checked in before making the day busy
Ask the property whether your room will be available when you arrive. A morning arrival does not automatically include early check-in, and an after-midnight arrival needs the correct accommodation dates. Agree luggage storage or a waiting arrangement directly if needed.
Once you are there, deal with the small practical jobs: connect your phone, locate drinking water and find an easy meal nearby. Save the reception contact and a clear return pin. A beautiful villa can still have an entrance that is difficult to identify after dark.
For your first outing, choose one nearby place or a relaxed meal. Keep long-distance touring for a day when everyone has slept and knows what they feel like doing. That is especially helpful with children or after a disrupted flight.
Use cash and payment methods deliberately
Ask the accommodation and activity providers which payment methods they accept. Keep smaller spending money separate from major travel payments and avoid assuming every café, driver or attraction accepts the same card or payment app.
If exchanging cash, use our money-changing checklist. Compare the actual amount you will receive after stated fees, count it at the counter and keep the receipt. Treat the website’s optional currency conversions as approximate comparisons, not the rate a bank or money changer must offer.
Before booking transport, agree the price in IDR and the payment method. For Rafa’s day hire, a 50% deposit is required; confirm the balance timing and cancellation terms directly. Airport transfers and short outings need their own confirmed arrangements.
Choose a first full day that fits where you stay
Scroll the table sideways to compare.
| What you want | A sensible starting idea | What to avoid adding automatically |
|---|---|---|
| Rice terraces and a temple | An Ubud-area day with two priorities | A distant coastal sunset on the same plan |
| A west-coast afternoon | Tanah Lot with time to look around | Every beach and mall on the way |
| Southern views and culture | One beach or GWK, then Uluwatu if it fits | Several ticketed attractions and a tight dinner booking |
| A family day | One main park with a proper meal break | A second major park just because it is on a list |
These are planning starting points, not the best route from every hotel. Use the day planner to select your accommodation area, interests and pace, then confirm the result with Simson. The planner does not calculate live traffic or reserve a date.
What to recheck during your holiday
Before a boat trip, outdoor activity or long journey, review current operator information and local conditions. Australians can use Smartraveller’s Indonesia advice; other visitors should also check their own government’s guidance. A blog cannot replace a current warning or a provider’s instructions.
If plans change, tell the people involved early. An activity reservation, restaurant table and driver booking may have different change terms. Keep confirmation messages together so you can see what was agreed rather than relying on memory.
For an easy first enquiry, send Simson your dates, hotel, group and one or two things you would love to do. He speaks Indonesian and a little English. Clear, short messages help turn a broad holiday idea into an agreed journey.
