Good Bali coffee, without a captive-civet stop

An Ubud café day built around Indonesian coffee, a slow lunch and your own choices, with a practical note on kopi luwak.

Make the café the destination

You do not need an animal attraction to enjoy coffee in Bali. Start with a specialty café such as Seniman’s Ubud studio and ask about the Indonesian beans on the current menu. Tell the café whether you prefer espresso, filter coffee, milk drinks or something less intense. A coffee stop can be a gentle main outing with lunch and local browsing, or one nearby stop within an Ubud day. There is no requirement to buy beans or a tasting tray.

Why this itinerary leaves captive civets out

Kopi luwak is associated with beans that pass through civets. Captive-civet attractions raise animal-welfare concerns, described in World Animal Protection’s coffee guidance. This route instead lets you request ordinary specialty coffee stops without captive-civet visits. A “wild” label alone does not verify how coffee was sourced. If provenance matters to you, ask the seller for evidence or choose a different coffee. This website does not certify a product or a café’s entire supply chain.

A tasting or workshop needs its own booking

A café visit is different from a guided plantation tour, a roasting class or a formal tasting. Check the current café menu and ask directly whether the session you want is available on your date, how long it lasts and what it costs. Book it separately from transport. Seniman’s official Ubud page is a useful starting point for checking the studio; an activity is not included simply because the itinerary mentions the café.

Keep the day in one region

Pair the coffee with an Ubud lunch or nearby browsing and choose a clear collection point. Markets may use bargaining even if cafés and stores have printed prices. Kintamani is a different, longer highland route, not a quick automatic addition to every Ubud coffee morning. Send Simson your hotel, date, preferred café, booking time and return point. Agree a transport quote for the visit length. Coffee, meals, beans and any paid tasting remain separate.
